PGDC's Locate a Professional Directory

You're missing opportunities if you do not use the many ways to market your services or organization on the PGDC. In this first tip in a series of short articles we will show you the simplest ways to get started marketing.

Our support staff receives requests for information from our members that vary dramatically. We've had questions from "What is the best type of life insurance to purchase if I want to make a gift to charity and have it paid for in ten years?" to "I'd like to make a gift of real estate. What is the process and what is the best way?" How do we answer the question? One of our answers is to simply tell them to go to the Locate a Professional directory and search for a person in their area with the qualifications they need.

Being listed in the Locate a Professional directory is the simplest way to start marketing your professional services or your organization on the PGDC. We have a question for you. Are you listed in the directory? Follow these steps to find out if you are and to enhance your message.

  1. Login to the PGDC so you can see your profile. If you've forgotten your password, just click the link shown below. You should always stay logged into the PGDC. There is no reason to log out.

  2. After you're logged in you will see My Profile below the main menu on the right side of the screen as shown below.

  3. Click on My Profile and your profile will load. Notice that the first arrow to the left shows that you are on the account tab. This is where you can change your email address if needed, rather than having to register again at the new address. Changing your address is the best practice because all of your comments and other activities are saved. If you open a new account all of your marketing activities (more later) are deleted. Notice the second arrow. This arrow points to Member Profile. Click on Member Profile and you will be presented with a number of options you can enhance.

  4. You will need to scroll to the bottom of this page to check whether you are being shown on the Locate a Professional directory. But while you are scrolling you may want to include your address, bio and other valuable information. In particular, check your current occupation and any professional designations you have attained. The reason is simple. People are looking for qualified advisors with whom to work. The more information you provide about yourself and your qualifications the better. When using the directory, members (who must be logged in) can search based on their zip code, the occupation of a person, the designation and more. The more information you include the better your marketing effort, especially your bio. The following graphic shows the fields where you indicate whether you want to be shown to other members.

  5. The arrow at the top shows where you can insert your bio. Under Community click the down arrow to the right of the Contact Info field and select Share with other registered members. In the Member Directory field click and select Include profiles in the directory. And don't be concerned about sharing your contact information. Our system uses an email form for communication, so spammers and others will not gain access to your email address.

So that's it. It's that simple to share your value to the other members of the PGDC. We encourage you to avail yourself of this free marketing opportunity on the PGDC. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment at the bottom of this article so others will benefit from the answer to your question.
